Jenny Bolton was born and educated in St. Albans in Hertfordshire, then at Durham University, where she met her first husband. They lived for a time in Bradford, and she taught in a girls' grammar school before having her two children. She also sang in the huge Festival Choral Society. After moving to the north-east coast, her life style changed, and she developed a private teaching practice as well as teaching part time in further education. In due course she was accepted as an examiner for Trinity College of Music, and at the same time was active in the Competitive Music Festival organization. Church music was also part of her life for many years both as organist and choir trainer. It was through music that she met her second husband, a professional violinist, and performed many times with him. When her hearing deteriorated and she could no longer play or hear music, she took to writing, her other discipline.
