The cathedral and abbey church of St Alban is one of the most important ecclesiastical buildings in Britain, standing on a site of unique value for the clear link which has been established archaeologically between the origins of the site in Romano-British Christianity to the present day. With a view to retaining and enhancing the special qualities of the cathedral for the future, the Cathedral Chapter commissioned this Conservation Plan from an independent consultant, Peter Burman. As well as identifying the significance of the constituent parts of the cathedral, the Conservation Plan identifies current issues which have emerged from the consultation process, assesses vulnerabilities, and puts forward policies to address these vulnerabilities.
