In this trying time, Stefania's husband passes away, leaving her alone with seventeen-year-old Janka and little Julek. She must summon great strength to endure. Assistance comes from their Jewish friends, the Szlechter family, skilled tailors, whose daughter Hanka is Janka's closest companion.
