Today, however, they've aged, and their fury has morphed into disillusionment. They no longer seek solace in God or political affiliations. And if they do, they're uncertain where to look. In the dimly lit city of Parma, blanketed in a heavy coat of snow, decay seems omnipresent: corruption thrives, crime escalates, and unrest festers. Commissioner Soneri grapples with containing his frustration amidst this escalating chaos.
He finds himself entangled in three lines of investigation, each presenting peculiar circumstances seemingly unrelated. The first originates from Angela, his partner, who reports eerie noises emanating from the riverbank. Traversing the icy terrain, Soneri discovers a cell phone devoid of a memory card and enigmatic dog prints leading to nowhere. The second commences at a hospice with the inexplicable vanishing of an elderly man afflicted with amnesia, leaving behind no traces.
Lastly, the third investigation leads Soneri to the ski slopes, where the town's mayor mysteriously disappeared. Though it's common knowledge he was vacationing there, no one recalls seeing him. Amidst the confusion, Soneri is convinced these cases are all interconnected by a singular strategy: that of the lizard.
