The year 1939 is coming. The stabilized lives of Marta, Nadia, Vissarion and Andrzej suddenly fall apart. Meanwhile, for Marcel Lemanski, the outbreak of war is a chance to leave the prison walls. The Soviet and then German occupation leaves a deep mark on the heroes, while Ukrainian nationalists, supporting the Third Reich, hope for the creation of an independent state. Their dashed hopes and the bitterness of defeat lead to a tragedy that costs the lives of thousands of innocent people. Different attitudes, moral dilemmas and extreme emotions, and finally constant fear accompany the heroes from the first day of the war and paint a picture of the gloomy reality of Volhynia and Lviv.
